Spend 1 or 2 days with Shirley Adams and get excited about your sewing all over again. Shirley will inspire you to try new things and even turn your mistakes into works of art that show off your creativity and style. The seminar/fashion show is on Saturday, September 17 from 9-4 with a 1 hour break for gourmet lunch provided by the Haworth Center. In the seminar Shirley will dazzle you with over 200 jackets, garments, purses and accessories and tell you how to create such wonderful pieces for yourself.
The hands on class is Friday September 18. The second session is called "bakers dozen" In this session Shirely will show you how to do various techniques on the sewing machine, then give you time to do them on your sewing machine. The techniques are: Felting, Couching, Collage, Pin Weaving, Bobbin Work, Sculptured or Layered Fabrics, Free Motion Stitching (Thread Painting), Fringing, Machine Lace, Pulled Threads, Twin Needling, 3D Flowers, and Koos-type Piecing. You will need to bring your sewing machine and some supplies you probably already have at home. This information will be supplied when you purchase your ticket(s). The Haworth Center will refresh you will a gourmet lunch. If you have never dined at the Haworth Center, you are in for a treat, those of you that have, know how wonderful their chef prepared lunches are. In the morning, Shirley will show you how to fit darts. Darts can be for fit or decoration or both. Moving darts to different locations can alter style and shape. You will learn how to manipulate and transform darts, then you will design something original from any darted pattern. Learn how to add shape with darts and even turn them into princess lines. Patterns will be furnished.
Shirley Adams is star of the PBS show "The Sewing Connection" and has 3 degrees in clothing and textiles and communications. She has spent 15 years as a university professor before starting her career in television. Shirley's shows have been seen in the US and Canada and she has traveled the country sharing her passions for sewing with thousands. Unfortunately, Shirley will be retiring in 2011, but we are so happy to be able to soak up some Shirley's sewing knowledge before she retires. Shirley has her own line of patterns and more which she will be bringing with her for sale. Also for sale are many of the jackets and purses she has made on her TV show.
